CAUSES:
β’ Bacterial invasion of the anal glands found in the intersphincteric space which may begin with an abrasion or tear in lining of anal canal, rectum or perianal skin
β’ Organisms: usually mixed, E. coli, Proteus vulgaris, streptococci, staphylococci, bacteroides, pseudomonas aeruginosa
