GLUCOSE OXIDASE IS AN ENZYME OBTAINED FROM CERTAIN FUNGI, WHICH CATALYSES THE OXIDATION OF GLUCOSE TO GLUCONIC ACID, WITH THE CONCOMITANT PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. IT IS USED FOR ITS PRESERVATIVE PROPERTIES AS AN ADDITIVE IN CERTAIN FOODS, SOMETIMES WITH CATALASE.IT IS ALSO USED IN FERTILITY TESTS AND TESTS OF DIABETIC CONTROL. IT HAS BEEN USED AS AN INGREDIENT OF TOOTHPASTES FOR ITS SUPPOSED BENEFITS IN THE PROPHYLAXIS OF DENTAL CARIES.
