Ethyl Oleate
An almost colourless or pale yellow oily mobile liquid with a
slight but not rancid odour. It consists of the ethyl esters of
oleic acid and related high molecular weight fatty acids.
Practically insoluble in water; miscible with alcohol, chloro-
form, dichloromethane, ether, fixed oils, liquid paraffin, and
most other organic solvents. Ethyl oleate dissolves some
types of rubber and causes others to swell. It oxidizes on ex-
posure to air; the air in partially filled containers should be
replaced by nitrogen or other suitable inert gas. Store in small
well-filled airtight containers or in an atmosphere of nitrogen.
Protect from light.
ETHYL OLEATE IS USED AS AN OILY VEHICLE.
