Fennel Oil
A colourless or pale yellow volatile oil with the characteristic
aromatic odour and taste of fennel, obtained by distillation
from dried ripe fennel fruit. It contains anethole. Soluble I in
I of alcohol (90%). If solid matter separates it should be melt-
ed and mixed before use. Store in airtight containers. Protect
from light.
Fennel oil is used as an aromatic carminative and flavour (but
see the comment under Fennel, above). It is also used in herb-
al remedies for respiratory-tract disorders.
