L-GLUTAMINE
GLUTAZENE * Composition
Each Sachet of GLUTAZENE * 0.67 Gm. Contains Water soluble Azulene (sodium 1,4-
dimethyl-7-isopropylazulene-3-Sulfonate)[PC 2.01 mg. L-glutamine] PC 663.30 mg in granule form.
DESCIPTION/FEATURE
L-Glutamine is a white crystalline powder soluble in water. The combination is a light blue granule with sweet taste.
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action
L-Glutamine is involved in the bio-synthesis of hexosamine and glucosamine, a constituent of mucopolysaccharides & also accelerates mucin synthesis, thus promotes tissue reconstruction and accelerates healing mechanisms of the ulcerated area.
L-Glutamine acts as an amino moiety donor to amino sugars which are the main components of gastric mucus that play an important role in strengthening and protecting the gastro-intestinal mucosa from back diffusion of acid and pepsin invasion.
INDICATION
L-Glutamine is used in the treatment of Gastric & duodenal ulcer, Acute & chronic gastritis, NSAID induced gastritis, and Erosive gastritis.
Recommended as anti-gastritic and direct ulcer healing agent.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended daily dose of 1.5 to 2.0 gm is given in three divided doses i.e. 1 sachet to be taken three times a day after meals. Therapy is usually given for 6-8 weeks. The dosage can be altered depending upon the age and condition of the patients.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
The drug is normally well tolerated. However instances of nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain & gastric discomfort have been reported. The drug may rarely cause facial flushing.
CONTRA INDICATION
Contra indicated in children.
