Butyl Alcohol
n-Butanol
A clear, colourless, mobile liquid with a vinous odour. Sp. gr.
0.807 to 0.809. B.p. about 118Β°. Soluble in water, miscible
with alcohol, ether, and many other organic solvents. Store in
airtight containers at a temperature not exceeding 40Β°.
CAUTION. Suitable precautions should be taken to avoid skin
contact with butyl alcohol as it can penetrate it and pro-
duce systemic toxicity.
Adverse Effects
Butyl alcohol may be irritant and may cause mild CNS de-
pression with headache, dizziness, and drowsiness.

Uses
Butyl alcohol is used as an industrial and pharmaceutical sol-
vent and as an extraction solvent in food processing.
