Sulphaguanidine
Sulphaguanidine is a sulphonamide with properties similar to
those of sulphamethoxazole . It is absorbed to a limit-
ed extent from the gastro-intestinal tract and may therefore be
more likely to cause systemic effects than less well-absorbed
drugs such as phthalylsulphathiazole and succinylsulphathia-
zole. It is used usually in combination with other drugs, in the
treatment of gastro-intestinal infections, and has also been ap-
plied locally to the skin and throat.
