VIT D3
Cholecalciferol
The naturally occurring form of vitamin D. It is produced
from 7-dehydrocholesterol, a sterol present in mammalian
skin, by ultraviolet irradiation. White or almost white, odour-
less crystals which are sensitive to air. heat, and light.
Practically insoluble in water: freely soluble or soluble in
alcohol: freely soluble in ether: soluble in chloroform and in
fatty oils.
Solutions in volatile solvents are unstable and should be used
immediately. Store at a temperature of 2 to 8Β° in hermetically
sealed containers in which the air has been replaced by nitro-
gen. The contents of an opened container should be used im-
mediately. Protect from light.
