Encainide Hydrochloride
Encainide is a class Ic antiarrhythmic and was used
for the treatment of severe or life-threatening ventricular ar-
rhythmias. As a result of encainide causing an increase in
mortality rates in post-infarction patients in the Cardiac Ar-
rhythmia Suppression Trial (CAST), encainide was
withdrawn from the market. Doses which were built up grad-
ually did not generally exceed 200 mg daily by mouth.
