CASANTHRANOL
DESCRIPTION:
Casanthranol, IS A MILD STOOL SOFTENER. It is a anthraquinone laxative.
ACTIONS/CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY:
ACTION AND USES
IT provides gentle peristaltic stimulation and helps to keep stools
soft for easier passage. Bowel movement is induced gently- -usually overnight or
in 8 to 12 hours. Nausea, griping, abnormally loose stools, and constipation
rebound are minimized. Useful in management of chronic or temporary
constipation.
WARNINGS:
Do not use when abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting is present. Frequent or
prolonged use of this preparation may result in dependence on laxatives.
As with any drug, pregnant or nursing women should seek the advice of a health
professional before using this product.
ADVERSE REACTIONS:
SIDE EFFECTS
The incidence of side effects--none of a serious nature--is exceedingly small.
Nausea, abdominal cramping or discomfort, diarrhea, and rash are the main side
effects reported.

OVERDOSAGE:
In addition to symptomatic treatment, gastric lavage, if timely, is recommended
in cases of large overdosage.
