Chamazulene
DESCIPTION/FEATURE
Water soluble Chamazulene, is a dark blue scale - like crystals without taste. It has slight smell
and is easily soluble in water.
PHARMACOLOGY
Mechanism of Action
Chamazulene suppresses inflammation caused by various inflammatory agents and shows anti-
inflammatory action through a direct effect on the local inflammation of gastric mucosa and its
anti-inflammatory action is long lasting.
INDICATION
Chamazulene is used in the treatment of Gastric & duodenal ulcer, Acute & chronic gastritis,
NSAID induced gastritis, and Erosive gastritis.
Recommended as anti-gastritic and direct ulcer healing agent.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
The recommended daily dose of 1.5 to 2.0 gm is given in three divided doses i.e. 1 sachet to be
taken three times a day after meals. Therapy is usually given for 6-8 weeks. The dosage can be
altered depending upon the age and condition of the patients.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
The drug is normally well tolerated. However instances of nausea, vomiting, constipation,
abdominal pain & gastric discomfort have been reported. The drug may rarely cause facial
flushing.
CONTRA INDICATION
Contra indicated in children.
