Cinnamon Oil
Cinnamon Oil is obtained from either Cinnomomum cassia
or Cinnamomum zeylonicum.
A clear yellow volatile oil with a characteristic odour ob-
tained by distillation from cinnamon. It becomes reddish-
brown with age. It contains 60 to 80% w/w of aldehydes, cal-
culated as cinnamaldehyde (C9H,O). It also contains eugenol.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25Β°. Protect from light.
Cinnamon oil has properties and uses similar to those of cin-
namon .It is carminative and slightly astringent and is included
in preparations for gastrointestinal disorders.It is also used as
a flavour . It is also included in preparations for muscu-
loskeletal and joint disorders and for respiratory-tract
disorders. There have been a number of reports of sensitivity
to cinnamaldehyde, a constituent of cinnamon oil.
