Dequalinium Chloride
A creamy-white odourless or almost odourless powder.
Slightly soluble in water; soluble in boiling water, slightly
soluble in propylene glycol. Incompatible with soaps and
other anionic surfactants, with phenol, and with chlorocresol.
Dequalinium chloride is a bisquaternary quinolinium antisep-
tic, bactericidal against many Gram-positive and Gram-nega-
tive bacteria, and effective against fungi. The action is little
affected by the presence of serum. It is mainly used in the
form of lozenges in the treatment of minor infections of the
mouth and throat. It has been applied topically in the treat-
ment of skin and vaginal infections.
Dequalinium salicylate and undecenoate are also used.
